Individuals that are arrested in the Spencer County and the surrounding area are taken to the Spencer County Jail. Inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal’s Service and the Rockport Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.are also taken to this facility.

Rockport, IN, is home to Spencer County Jail. Men and female inmates are held in the Spencer County Jail. The Jail Commander is Virgil “Fella” Jones, the Chief Jailer is Tim Heady and there are also 13 Correctional officers that are employed at the Spencer County Jail that run the operations and are in charge of keeping all individuals safe and secure in this facility. The Spencer County Sheriff’s Department manages the Spencer County Jail.

The Spencer County Jail provides the three following programs for the inmates to take part in:

• General Educational Development (G.E.D.) course: This allows an inmate the opportunity to achieve their High School diploma
• Substance Abuse Program: The G.E.D. course and Substance Abuse Program are directed by Marva Statler of the Lifetime Education Center in Rockport who is certified by the State of Indiana.
• Mentoring Program: Lay Ministers Ron Conner and Whitney Ward lead this program.
