Sending Money

In order for inmates at the Knox County Jail to make purchases, they will need their account funded. There are several different ways you can fund an inmate's account if you would like to do so.

Money orders are the only thing that can be sent in the mail to fund an inmate's account.

At Knox County Jail lobby there is a kiosk that you can use to deposit funds into an inmate's account. The kiosk accepts cash, credit and debit cards. 1$ bill are not accepted at the kiosk and the kiosk does not make change either.  

Funds can be deposited by logging onto www.smartdeposit.com. The inmate’s SO number will be needed to use this service. This service also has a charge that starts at $2.95.

By calling 812-882-7660 you will be able to deposit funds as well. The inmate’s SO number will be needed for this service as well. This service also has a charge that starts at $4.  Keep in mind there is a fee that starts at $4.

There are a minimum of $5 and a maximum of $200 per transaction per week with all the services listed above.

Phone calls

The Knox County Jail inmates are not allowed to get phone calls from their family or friends. During phone time inmates are allowed to make phone calls to their family and friends. The inmates are limited to 15-minute phone calls. The call will get terminated as soon as the 15-minutes is over.  

Calling features such as three-way calling and call forwarding are forbidden for the inmates to use. If an inmate is caught using any of these features the call will get disconnected and disciplinary action will be taken up against the inmate. 

The Knox County Jail inmates are allowed to only make collect phone calls. You will only be able to receive a collect call from an inmate from a landline phone. However, you will not be able to receive any collect calls from a mobile phone. The individual receiving the collect call is the one responsible for and all fees associated with the collect calls. The Knox County Jail is not accountable for any and all charges associated with the collect calls.

The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.

All visitations must be scheduled. All inmate in good standing are allowed visitors. Keep in mind that all visits need to be scheduled.
