The Bartholomew County Jail inmates are allowed to receive written letters in the mail from their family and friends. For safety reasons, all letters will be examined by jail employees when they arrive. The letters will get passed out to the correct inmate after the jail employees check them.

The books, newspapers and magazines will need to be sent straight from the bookstore or publisher to the Bartholomew County Jail. All books that are sent to the jail must be new and paperback. All used and hardcover books are not allowed. Books will be sent back to the sender if a used or hardcover book is sent.

The Bartholomew County Jail inmates will need money to buy things from the commissary. A cashier’s check or money order can be sent directly to the Bartholomew County Jail if you would like to fund an inmates account. Make sure to make the money payable to the inmate. Keep in mind, you will need to have the inmate’s PID number and date of birth are on the cashier's check or money order.

You will need to make sure you write the return address on the envelope if you are going to mail the money order or checks. You will need to give the money orders several days to be deposited into the inmate’s bank account.
The Bartholomew County Jail inmates are allowed to make phone calls to their family and friends. The Bartholomew County Jail inmates are not allowed to get any incoming calls.
Calling features such as three-way calling and call forwarding are prohibited for the inmates to use. The call will be disconnected right away if an inmate is caught using these features. Disciplinary action will be taken up against the inmate.
There are a couple of ways inmates can make phone calls from the Bartholomew County Jail. The Bartholomew County Jail inmates are allowed to make collect calls. Inmates will only be able to call those who have a landline. Inmates will not be able to call those who have a cell phone. The individual receiving the collect call is the one responsible for any and all charges from the collect call. The Bartholomew County Jail inmates are allowed to have visitors. All visitors under the age of 18 will are allowed to visit, however, they will need to be with by their legal guardian. The visiting starts in first in, first out type of fashion. No new visitors will be allowed in 45 minutes before the end of the visit day. 45 minutes before the end of the visit day officers start escorting those who were first in out of the visitor room.
